SUMMARY:EXPRESS CONCERT: Debussy\, Ryan and Shadle
DESCRIPTION:7pm Friday\, February 13\, 2026\nThis concert embodies Impressionist ideals that reflect nature and the spiritual essence of music\, opening with Claude Debussy’s ethereal and wistful Sonata for Flute\, Viola and Harp. As one of the first works written for this instrumentation\, Debussy inspired many composers after him in writing for this ensemble. New works by Native American composers ground the rest of the program\, offering contrast between the different kinds of flute playing of European and Native American traditions. Commissioned by the SPCO\, the three new works by Charles Shadle and Kiegan Ryan include a flute concerto and Cherokee song cycle — all informed by traditional Choctaw and Cherokee songs as well as Debussy’s impressionist spirit.

SUMMARY:Charlie Chaplin Matinee Double Feature and LIVE Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:The Historic Capri Theater Brings Back Its Silent Film Legacy with a Charlie Chaplin Double Feature and Live Orchestra This Valentine’s Day\n3pm & 7pm Saturday\, February 14th\n \n*A portion of the proceeds from this show will support legal aid for refugees with Temporary Protected Status. \nThe historic Capri Theater returns to its nostalgic silent film roots this Valentine’s Day with a Charlie Chaplin double feature\, presented with live orchestral accompaniment. Audiences are invited to experience an unforgettable evening of laughter\, romance\, and inspiration — a three-ring circus of orchestral music\, cinema\, and interactive theater. \nEach performance will be followed by a brief interview exploring the unique art form of silent film and the creative inspiration behind the music. \nThe evening begins with local sensation The Poor Nobodys\, performing their original score to Chaplin’s legendary short The Immigrant (1917). This acclaimed Minneapolis-based ensemble has built a reputation for crafting emotionally charged music across three studio albums\, theatrical productions\, film adaptations\, and with modern contemporary filmmakers. Their rich instrumentation includes cello\, vocals\, clarinet\, bass clarinet\, acoustic and electric guitars\, piano\, Wurlitzer\, synthesizer\, upright bass\, mandolin\, electric tenor mandolin\, drums\, banjo\, violin\, and accordion. Learn more at www.thepoornobodys.com. \nThe second feature\, Chaplin’s beloved six-reel masterpiece The Kid (1921)\, will be performed with a live score by composer Philip Shorey and the Curse of the Vampire Orchestra. Shorey returns to the Minneapolis stage following sold-out performances across the U.S. and Europe for his acclaimed productions of Nosferatu (1922) and The Phantom of the Opera (1925). The Kid will melt your heart as you experience the timeless magic of the silent silver screen brought to life with a 50-piece orchestra\, rock ‘n’ roll light show\, electronic music\, and full choir — a one-of-a-kind cinematic event! SUMMARY:Afro-Pasts / Afro-Futures: 2026 Black Europe Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Black Europe Film Festival returns to the Capri Theater for its second edition on February 21. This year’s program spans geographies and genres\, offering multiple perspectives on the breadth and diversity of Black life and culture in Europe and beyond. \nWhat binds the program is a shared theme: Afro-Pasts / Afro-Futures. The films take us across many places—from Spike Lee’s Brooklyn to the Target Center\, to the imagined future realm of Umata—and they insist on the need to reconnect with the past. But this return is not about being stuck. Across their differences\, the films share a forward-looking belief: that reconnecting with the past opens pathways ahead. In many ways\, it is a return to the future. \nSaturday\, February 21  \n3:00 PM\nRUDY GOBERT NO. 27\n(Screening)\nBUY TICKETS \n \n4:30 PM\nSPIKE LEE: THE LAST KING OF BROOKLYN\n(Screening + In-Person Q&A)\nBUY TICKETS \n \n6:00 PM — Reception \n7:00 PM\nMEMORY OF PRINCESS MUMBI\n(Screening + In-Person Q&A)\nBUY TICKETS

SUMMARY:Sarah’s Oil
DESCRIPTION:Senator Champion’s Office presents a special Black History Month film showing at the historic Capri Theater:\n  \nBlack History Month is a time to reflect\, learn\, and uplift the stories\, contributions\, and resilience of Black people past and present. SUMMARY:Souleymane's Story
DESCRIPTION:Food delivery workers have become an indispensable part of city life\, especially since the pandemic. Among them is Souleymane (Abou Sangaré\, in a commanding debut)\, who criss-crosses the frenetic Parisian streets morning to night\, in a constant race against the clock. He\, like many around him\, is working without permission\, ‘renting’ his identity from a friend with legal status. But in just two days\, Souleymane will learn whether his own asylum application will be approved or not. So whilst striving to meet his delivery platform’s demands\, he nervously practices for his interview\, trying to keep his growing anxiety at bay… \nA social-realist thriller as humanist as it is propulsive\, former philosophy professor Lojkine’s masterfully-crafted drama echoes not only Bicycle Thieves and the best films of the Dardennes\, but also edge-of-your-seat thrillers such as ‘Uncut Gems’ and ‘Full Time’. Only adding to the film’s immense power is the real-life situation of its remarkable lead\, who has already been denied citizenship by French authorities. Three times. \nConversation Leader: Attorney Francois Ecclesiaste \nFrance/ Drama \n\nFIRST THURSDAY FILMS @ THE CAPRI\nBe @ the movies! Noteworthy films with good conversation that follows each screening on the first Thursday of every month. The series is presented by MSP Film Society\, the Capri Theater\, and the Minnesota Historical Society.

SUMMARY:#WhileBlack
DESCRIPTION:#WhileBlack follows citizen journalists like Diamond Reynolds and Darnella Frazier\, whose cell phone videos from Minneapolis changed the conversation around policing and accountability overnight. Millions watched their footage\, but almost no one saw what came next. \nOnce the videos went viral\, Diamond\, Darnella\, and others went into hiding to escape online trolls\, media attention\, and police surveillance — while Silicon Valley benefited from the explosion in user engagement their videos generated. The film pulls back the curtain on what it actually costs to document the truth in real time\, and what happens when everyday people become the record-keepers of history. \nAs Minneapolis once again finds itself at the center of national debate over footage\, surveillance\, and state power\, #WhileBlack feels especially urgent—asking who really benefits from citizen journalism today\, and who is left to carry the burden when a moment meant to inform the public becomes profit-generating content for the internet. \nDirectors Sidney Fussell and Jennifer Holness attending \nDirectors: Sidney Fussell\, Jennifer Holness\nDocumentary\, 2026\n84 minutes; USA\, Canada
