SUMMARY:Minneapolis Sound Museum: Finding Our Way
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 6\, 2026\n1:30pm\nFREE \n\nFinding Our Way: A Story of the Minneapolis Sound explores the roots of the legendary Minneapolis Sound and the community that helped shape it. \n \n\n\nThis short documentary takes a look at the origins of what came to be known as the Minneapolis Sound. While Prince would eventually blaze the trail\, he was only one of many gifted young musicians growing up in North Minneapolis during a time of civil unrest and cultural change. It started with neighborhood kids forming their own bands\, rehearsing in basements and garages\, driven by passion. But then came The Way Community Center that took that passion and gave it possibility. A community-built space born out of the civil unrest of the late 1960s in Minneapolis\, The Way became a safe haven where young artists could develop their talent\, find mentorship\, and imagine a future beyond the challenges surrounding them. Through historical research and community voices\, this short documentary uncovers how a grassroots movement in North Minneapolis helped create what the world would come to know as the Minneapolis Sound. It also explores present day civil unrest and if we could create another Way today. \n \n\n\nThis is a FREE event\, but tickets must be reserved to guarantee seating. Please click TICKETS to reserve your seat and help preserve these stories and the legacy of this music. The film begins at 2 pm followed my a short panel discussion. \nFor more information\, visit minneapolissoundmuseum.org or email contact@minneapolissoundmuseum.org \n\n\n\n \n\n\n  \nBonus: The Capri Arts Festival is happening the same day from noon–4 pm! Come early for live music\, food\, and fun before the screening. Learn more HERE.
