SUMMARY:"LIFE HEIST: Stealing Hope While Surviving Diabetes and Homelessness"
DESCRIPTION:When chronic illness meets homelessness we must get creative to meet the challenges that a worldwide pandemic\, overworked and underfunded everything presents. It is time for a heist. Ocean’s Eleven meets the actual decline of western civilization?\nAbout the Creation of LIFE HEIST\nPeople who are homeless die of preventable causes\, including diabetes\, at younger ages than their housed peers. LIFE HEIST is inspired by the research of a team working with Dr. Katherine Diaz Vickery at Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute called Diabetes Homeless Medication Support (D-Homes). \nMembers of the team hold knowledge derived from living with type 2 diabetes\, experiencing homelessness or housing instability\, as service providers\, community engagement facilitators\, and/or academic researchers. The research aims to design a coaching program to better support people experiencing homelessness and type 2 diabetes. \nThrough captivating performances and creative collaboration workshops\, zAmya Theater builds understanding and connection between citizens who have experienced homelessness and those who have not. \nTogether\, zAmya Troupe Members and research team members collaborated to create LIFE HEIST\, an original play in a unique experiment between participatory theater and community-engaged research that aims to challenge your perceptions about diabetes and homelessness. \nPLEASE NOTE: MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR ENTRY TO THE PARADISE COMMUNITY HALL @ THE CAPRI.  Thank you.

SUMMARY:Psychedelic Symposium: A Trip Into Your Experience
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the first Minneapolis psychedelic conference where we join voices from throughout the psychedelic community to share\, reflect\, and integrate our experiences. \n\n\n\nCollective progress is supported by the many ways of knowing. We nurture this sentiment by cultivating access to\, and representations of\, the cultural\, environmental\, scientific\, spiritual\, and communal explorations of psychedelics. We want to center everyday people in the plant medicine community as valid explorers with the agency to experience\, reflect\, heal\, and contribute.  \n\n\n\nOur goal with this conference is to confront some very real issues within the psychedelic community: Psychedelics launching into the mainstream with hopes of becoming a billion dollar industry. And the culture shifts. Capitalism infiltrates\, and not only the medicine\, but healers and intention become exploited for personal gain. Racial and academic hierarchy also permeate the community. We see White academics\, investors\, and pharmaceutical companies reaching for domination and ownership while Black and Brown voices fall victim to criminalization\, academic skepticism\, exclusion in professional spaces\, and medicinal disregard. This colonizing trend will not be taken lightly and we plan to address it. Let’s lead by example. This is an opportunity for the collective to consciously connect\, listen\, be heard\, comprehend\, heal\, and empathize. \n\n\n\nPresenters include: Korey Matlock\, Bet Williams\, William Padilla-Brown\, Mailae Halstead\, Jessica Nielson\, Christine Diindilsi McCleave\, Day Host\, Ranji Varghese\, Manoj Doss\, Miel Arredondo\, Abdul “Duli” Wilkins\, Mama Ayanna Iyi\, Courtney Osborn\, Shireen June Ghanatabadi\, Kayla Felten\, Catherine Griffith\, Poe Yoni\, Hector Arredondo\, David Paurus and Lindsey Madla. \n\n\n\nA schedule and list of speakers and workshop hosts\, along with their bios\, can be found at bigpsychmpls.com. \n\n\n\nQuestions? bigpsychmpls@gmail.com or 612.227.9845 \n\n\n\n
