SUMMARY:African American Leadership Forum presents: Northside Forward
DESCRIPTION:Northside Forward: A Celebration of Power\, People\, Place\, and Possibility\nEvent Details:\nDate: Wednesday\, June 11\, 2025\nTime: 5:30 PM (The program begins at 6:00 PM)\nLocation: Capri Theater\, 2027 W Broadway Ave\, Minneapolis\, MN 55411 \nCLICK HERE TO RSVP \nHere’s what the evening will hold.\n \n\nThe official release of the Northside Forward Plan\nA screening of the new Northside Forward film—our story\, in our words\nA powerful program featuring a conversation with local and national leaders\nArt\, music\, food\, and time to be in community with each other\n\nThe Program\nRoots & Rise: Lessons from Cities that Rebuilt with Purpose \nA rich exchange with leaders who’ve successfully led revitalization efforts—offering blueprints\, breakthroughs\, and fuel for what’s next on the Northside. \n\nCarolyn Johnson\, Oakland Rise East Initiative\nAsali DeVan Ecclesiastes – Ashé Cultural Arts Center\nAsaleSol Young – Housing In Action\n\n\nAbout Northside Forward\n \nNorthside Forward is a community-grown revitalization effort rooted in the brilliance\, stories\, and everyday power of North Minneapolis. It began as a conversation—between elders and youth\, artists and entrepreneurs\, dreamers and doers—brought together by the African American Leadership Forum to imagine a future built by us\, for us. \nWhat emerged is more than a plan—it’s a promise. A commitment to invest in the people\, places\, and possibilities that have always made the Northside more than a neighborhood. It’s where movements are born\, where culture is created\, where futures are shaped. And now\, it’s where intentional\, community-led development is taking hold—with a focus on Black prosperity\, creative economy\, housing that honors legacy\, and public spaces that reflect who we are. \nNorthside Forward isn’t about starting from scratch. It’s about building on a foundation already rich with talent\, vision\, and care. It’s about making sure the growth coming to Minneapolis doesn’t pass the Northside by—but is led by its people\, guided by its values\, and shaped by its history.

SUMMARY:The Big Bad Musical: A Howling Courtroom Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Our tremendous group of middle school scholars brings this show to life for you:\n5pm Wednesday\, August 6\n5pm Thursday\, August 7 \nDirectors Dennis Spears and Greta Oglesby \nA courtroom has never been more lively and fun than in The Big Bad Musical!  This smart and wickedly funny musical is great for actors and audiences of any age.  The jury — your audience — must decide the outcome of the biggest trial ever in the fairy-tale world!  The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by storybooks of quirky characters who want to get even:  Little Red Riding Hood\, her Grandmother\, the Three Little Pigs\, and the Shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf.  With Sydney Grimm as the commentator on live Court TV\, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest — the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother — clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after.  As our wronged fairy tale characters testify\, the wolf seems deserving of all that’s coming.  Yet\, even though the infamous Evil Stepmother resents doing pro-bono work on such an obviously futile defense\, Mr. Wolf makes a good case for himself.  Was he born a criminal\, or made one?  This musical has it all — audience participation\, minimal set and costume requirements\, a good balance of stage time for each character\, multiple endings to make every performance unique\, and Bill Francoeur’s toe-tapping tunes!\n\n\n\nBY ALEC STRUM\nMUSIC AND LYRICS BY BILL FRANCOEUR \nDirectors: Greta Oglesby & Dennis Spears\nMusic Director: Kim Keaton\nDrumming: Marc “Chico” Perez\nChoreography: Diane Robinson\nVisual Art: Julie Acton\nScenic Design: Jeff Moe\nLighting Design: Kurt Jung\nCamp Capri Administrator: Jennifer Whitlock\nApprentices: Michael Seye & Sarah Jefferson
