SUMMARY:The Big Bad Musical: A Howling Courtroom Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Our tremendous group of middle school scholars brings this show to life for you:\n5pm Wednesday\, August 6\n5pm Thursday\, August 7 \nDirectors Dennis Spears and Greta Oglesby \nA courtroom has never been more lively and fun than in The Big Bad Musical!  This smart and wickedly funny musical is great for actors and audiences of any age.  The jury — your audience — must decide the outcome of the biggest trial ever in the fairy-tale world!  The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by storybooks of quirky characters who want to get even:  Little Red Riding Hood\, her Grandmother\, the Three Little Pigs\, and the Shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf.  With Sydney Grimm as the commentator on live Court TV\, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest — the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother — clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after.  As our wronged fairy tale characters testify\, the wolf seems deserving of all that’s coming.  Yet\, even though the infamous Evil Stepmother resents doing pro-bono work on such an obviously futile defense\, Mr. Wolf makes a good case for himself.  Was he born a criminal\, or made one?  This musical has it all — audience participation\, minimal set and costume requirements\, a good balance of stage time for each character\, multiple endings to make every performance unique\, and Bill Francoeur’s toe-tapping tunes!\n\n\n\nBY ALEC STRUM\nMUSIC AND LYRICS BY BILL FRANCOEUR \nDirectors: Greta Oglesby & Dennis Spears\nMusic Director: Kim Keaton\nDrumming: Marc “Chico” Perez\nChoreography: Diane Robinson\nVisual Art: Julie Acton\nScenic Design: Jeff Moe\nLighting Design: Kurt Jung\nCamp Capri Administrator: Jennifer Whitlock\nApprentices: Michael Seye & Sarah Jefferson

SUMMARY:Women In Blue Screening
DESCRIPTION:The Golden Valley Police Department (GVPD) will host a free public screening of the documentary Women in Blue on Saturday\, Sept 13\, 2025\, in honor of National Police Woman Day.\nDoors open at 1 pm and the screening starts at 1:30 pm\, followed by a panel at 3:15 pm at Capri Theater\, 2027 W Broadway\, Minneapolis. The film follows several women officers\, including current Golden Valley Assistant Police Chief Alice White\, during a pivotal time in the Minneapolis Police Department\, just prior to the murder of George Floyd. \nWomen in Blue premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was an official selection at the Minneapolis-St St Paul International Film Festival. It examines the intersection of gender\, race\, and policing through the eyes of the few women\, and even fewer women of color\, serving in law enforcement leadership roles. \nThe GVPD is actively addressing those same challenges and opportunities in real time. It has already met the national 30×30 Initiative goal of 30% female representation in police recruit classes five years ahead of the 2030 target. Of the department’s 38 members\, 16 are women serving in a wide variety of roles\, including patrol officers\, sergeants\, detectives\, community service officers\, and support staff. \nThe event is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:A Mayoral Forum for Minneapolis’ Future
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by The African American Leadership Forum \nMinneapolis stands at a turning point. As the city approaches its next mayoral election\, residents have a chance not only to hear from those who seek to lead—but to shape the very conversation about where we’re going and how we’ll get there. \nA Mayoral Forum for Minneapolis’ Future is a gathering for those who believe that civic life must be rooted in care\, community\, and clarity. Organized by The African American Leadership Forum\, this forum brings together neighbors\, creatives\, organizers\, youth\, elders\, and candidates in a space designed to support meaningful exchange—not just about policies\, but about the future we want to live in. This forum is shaped by the values that continue to move Minneapolis forward: imagination\, accountability\, collective wisdom\, and the brilliance of Black leadership. It is not a debate. It is a space of direction-setting. Here\, we ask candidates to meet the community not with performance\, but with purpose.
