Mamargade is a jack-of-all-trades in Paradise\, a town in the war-torn Somali countryside. With his son\, Cigaal\, and sister\, Araweelo\, he’s trying to make ends meet in a country rife with violence and uncertainty. Mo Harawe’s debut feature was the first Somali film to be an official selection at Cannes. \nCigaal is a gifted child\, clearly in need of additional schooling to help him realize his potential. Mamargade toils selflessly\, taking on virtually any job–including gravedigger\, a necessary gig in a land targeted by U.S. drone strikes–to see that his son’s education continues. DESCRIPTION:Directors and Guests Attending! \nDirectors Ashley Tyner\, William Tyner\nAt the intersection of East 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis\, three community organizers—Jeanelle Austin\, Toshira Garraway\, and Robin Wonsley — embark on interweaving journeys after George Floyd’s murder to care for their communities\, find inner healing\, and forge a path towards Black liberation. \nFor these activists\, this fight is vital to reimagining Minneapolis and changing decades-long issues that have resulted in violence and poverty in the Black community. Austin is a memorial caretaker at George Floyd Square\, a place of protest that remembers George Floyd and others killed unjustly from state-sanctioned violence\, and and she hopes that her work archiving Black history will be a living monument; Wonsley decides to run for city council and strives to change the city’s corrupt police department; and Garraway is the leader of Families Supporting Families Against Police Violence\, trying to bring justice to the victims’ families. DESCRIPTION:New This Summer\nDue to the high demand and continued requests from students who have aged out of our Summer Camp Capri program\, we are pleased to introduce Summer Camp Capri Encore. \nThis performance program is a unique opportunity for high school students in grades 9 – 12 to further advance their stage skills. It will run for four weeks\, focusing on acting\, vocal music\, and dance.
