SUMMARY:First Thursday Films presents: "Nope"
DESCRIPTION:Oscar® winner Jordan Peele disrupted and redefined modern horror with Get Out and then Us. Now\, he reimagines the summer movie with a new pop nightmare: the expansive horror epic\, Nope. \nThe film reunites Peele with Oscar® winner Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out\, Judas and the Black Messiah)\, who is joined by Keke Palmer (Hustlers\, Alice) and Oscar® nominee Steven Yeun (Minari\, Okja) as residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery. \n‘Nope’ Review: Hell Yes. \nEvery genre Peele invokes is a flytrap for social meanings\, and you can’t watch this cowboys-and-aliens monster movie without entertaining some deep thoughts about race\, ecology\, labor and the toxic\, enchanting power of modern popular culture.  — A.O. Scott\, NY Times \n\n\n\nCome for the movie — and stay for the conversation\, led this month by MSP Film programmer\, Craig Laurence Rice\, with founder and artistic director of the Legacy Arts Group\, Tamiko French. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Craig Laurence Rice\n \n \n \n \n \n Tamiko French\n \n \n\nThese conversations at the Capri on the Northside are always really interesting and engaging. Plan to stay\, listen\, speak up\, enjoy. \nAND…check out the outstanding slate of upcoming First Thursday Films including The Woman King\, The Last Dragon\, and more. \n\n \nBe @ the movies! Noteworthy films with good conversation that follows each screening on the first Thursday of every month. The series is presented by MSP Film\, the Capri\, and the Minnesota Historical Society.

SUMMARY:Bridging the Faultlines
DESCRIPTION:In a revealing and timely follow up to the 2019 Emmy-award winning documentary Jim Crow of the North\, Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) has created a series of documentary shorts called Jim Crow of the North Stories. You are invited to experience these stories in a live event that features music\, poetry\, and community. \nMapping Prejudice and the University of Minnesota Libraries\, City of Golden Valley\, Just Deeds\, and TPT invite community members to come together to “Bridge the Faultlines” between the adjacent communities of Golden Valley and North Minneapolis. For decades\, these two cities have been divided through racist covenants in property deeds and purposeful segregation. \nAll are invited to activate their purpose and become part of the change and healing. \n6-7pm: Pre-show reception \n7-9pm: Program \nThe event is FREE with registration. \n \nQuestions?
