SUMMARY:First Thursday Films: 1985 Cult Classic "The Last Dragon"
DESCRIPTION:In this 1985 cult classic\, Leroy Green\, a young martial artist living in New York City\, trains tirelessly to attain the same level of mastery as the great Bruce Lee. One night\, his life changes forever when he rescues television personality Laura Charles from evil businessman Eddie Arkadian. Impressed by Leroy’s bravery\, Laura falls for Leroy — but to keep her safe\, he will have to defeat a gang leader named Sho’nuff\, the self-styled Shogun of Harlem. \n“The Last Dragon surrounds this simple plot with a lot of technology. The movie is backed by Berry Gordy’s Motown Records\, which has supplied it with a digital sound track and the scenes in the disco make much use of back-projected music videos and scenes from old Bruce Lee movies. …[The film] stars two remarkably attractive and likable actors\, who have one name apiece. The hero is played by Taimak\, a 20-year-old karate student who has not acted before\, but who has a natural screen presence\, and the heroine is Vanity\, the rock singer discovered by Prince and used as a warm-up act at some of his concerts prior to the current tour.”   –Roger Ebert\, 1985 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome for the movie and stay for the conversation after\, with MSP Film’s Craig Laurence Rice and a special guest to be named. \nPlan to stay\, listen\, speak up\, enjoy. \n\n \nBe @ the movies! Noteworthy films with good conversation that follows each screening on the first Thursday of every month. The series is presented by MSP Film\, the Capri\, and the Minnesota Historical Society.

SUMMARY:Wenso Ashby Music presents: "House of Jazz"
DESCRIPTION:This will be our 5th annual celebration concert for Black Music Month. It all starts at 5:00 with a social hour. Join us! We’ll offer a nice selection of wine\, beer\, and non-alcoholic beverages\, and a lovely lobby for gathering ‘n greeting. AND…be sure to visit the Capri’s art gallery featuring VIBE Art by Ella. Ella Beard is a 12-year-old artist and entrepreneur. \nPerformances include J. Michelle Caldwell\, Zsamé Morgan\, Keith Nance and Duane Smith. This show is all about a vibe similar to the feeling that one would get from the ’70s\, ’80s and ’90s. Imagine the music of Sade\, Grover and Chaka embodied by the realness of artists expressing themselves through singing with their natural voices alongside musicians being creative in the moment while actually playing instruments. \nThis is a live experience unlike anything else. In the words of Grover Washington Jr.\, “You didn’t think we would let you leave here feeling like the way you came\, now did you?” \nWe welcome you to the “House of Jazz” in the Paradise Community Hall at the legendary Capri.
