DESCRIPTION:The 8th Season of First Thursday Films @ the Capri opens with TILL\, the true story of Mamie Till-Mobley’s relentless pursuit of justice for her 14-year-old son\, Emmett Till\, who was brutally lynched in 1955 while visiting his cousins in Mississippi. \nThe film is directed by Chinonye Chukwu  and stars Danielle Deadwyler and Jalyn Hall.  \nAfter the film\, please stay for the conversation with special guest\, James Curry. Curry is a producer\, director\, writer\, editor\, and instructor at Augsburg University. SUMMARY:Hennepin History Museum presents: Minneapolis Interview Project
DESCRIPTION:The Minneapolis Interview Project\, in partnership with Hennepin History Museum\, presents an evening of real-life stories about social justice in Minneapolis. \nThe Minneapolis Interview Project was started in 2016 by Anne Winkler-Morey\, a writer\, historian\, activist scholar and Southside resident. Her goal was to interview one-hundred people of different ages\, races\, genders\, economic classes\, migration experiences\, as well as living in different parts of Minneapolis.  She invited people to tell their life-stories that reveal hidden histories of inequity and the struggle for social justice in Minneapolis. \nOn Thursday\, September 14\, Ms. Winkler-Morey and many of the people she interviewed will read from their interview transcripts. A portion of the evening’s program will also honor those participants who have passed away since contributing their interviews. The evening will also feature photographs by Minneapolis-based artist\, photographer\, and teacher\, Eric Mueller\, who joined the project in 2019\, volunteering his expertise to photograph interviewees in locations that are important to them. \n\nThere will be opportunity for questions and conversation with the audience. \nDoors open at 5: 30 pm\, with the program beginning at 6 pm. \nThe event is free\, but reservations are required. \nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:How The Genius of the Northside Ignites Its Future – It’s Our Time\nNorth Minneapolis is a community brimming with opportunity\, but historically weighed down by cycles of investment and disinvestment and racial segregation. Despite generational challenges\, those who call Northside home have fought to build a tight-knit community pulling together to grow a thriving economy. \nIn recent years\, a confluence of projects are contributing to an economic renaissance that will change the neighborhood’s landscape. Recent projects like the expansion of the Capri Theater and the redevelopment of 927 West Broadway are examples of years of efforts to revitalize the West Broadway corridor. Similar efforts are cropping up along other Northside corridors.
