Join Miko Simmons for an immersive experience honoring his North Side roots and his father’s multigenerational legacy of creativity and resilience. This is a space to re-member, reconnect with community, and collaborate.
The evening will feature a live sonic expansion by musician Kevin Washington, Jr., whose creative genius connects the art to the unique vibrations of ancestral energy.
How to Participate:
We invite you to bring your own “inspired self”—whether that is an instrument, a poem, a dance, or a prayer.
Artist Statement:
I view my art in the form of Visual Jazz. It is free expression, it is collaboration and improvisational co-creation within the boundaries of structure and order, it is spiritual and Afro-futuristic contemplative connecting us to familiar memories, it is dedication to honoring the history of the art forms of the past while integrating a technological future as it celebrates the Ancestors inspiring new visions. I view my artistic path as that of a “digital age Griot.”
