The SPCO’s 2025/26 Northside Series

Exquisite music. Extraordinary musicians. The intimate setting of the Capri. Bravo!

EXPRESS CONCERT: Dvořák, Jlin, Moore and Navarro

7pm Friday, October 24, 2025

Approximate length 1:05

This genre-blurring chamber music program offers a rich, rhythmic blend of the soulful, the contemplative and the inventive. From Romantic, lyrical string trios to contemporary works of propulsive beats and bold musical colors, this program flows like a conversation across time and culture, beginning with Antonín Dvořák’s Terzetto for Two Violins and Viola before springing forward to explore chamber music from the 21st century. It’s a vibrant showcase of small groups of musicians, with works for strings and wind ensembles.

EXPRESS CONCERT: Debussy, Ryan and Shadle

7pm Friday, February 13, 2026

Approximate length 1:03

This concert embodies Impressionist ideals that reflect nature and the spiritual essence of music, opening with Claude Debussy’s ethereal and wistful Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp. As one of the first works written for this instrumentation, Debussy inspired many composers after him in writing for this ensemble. New works by Native American composers ground the rest of the program, offering contrast between the different kinds of flute playing of European and Native American traditions. Commissioned by the SPCO, the three new works by Charles Shadle and Kiegan Ryan include a flute concerto and Cherokee song cycle — all informed by traditional Choctaw and Cherokee songs as well as Debussy’s impressionist spirit.

EXPRESS CONCERT: American Chamber Music

7pm Friday, May 8, 2026

Approximate length 1:05

This program shines a light on the heart of American chamber music — music shaped by spirituals, folk traditions, and everyday emotion. The result is deeply personal and refreshingly honest, with warm harmonies, lyrical melodies, and a sense of place woven throughout. It’s a chance to hear American stories told in sound: reflective, soulful, and rooted in human connection.
