Afro-Pasts / Afro-Futures: 2026 Black Europe Film Festival

  • This event has passed.

The Black Europe Film Festival returns to the Capri Theater for its second edition on February 21. This year’s program spans geographies and genres, offering multiple perspectives on the breadth and diversity of Black life and culture in Europe and beyond.

What binds the program is a shared theme: Afro-Pasts / Afro-Futures. The films take us across many places—from Spike Lee’s Brooklyn to the Target Center, to the imagined future realm of Umata—and they insist on the need to reconnect with the past. But this return is not about being stuck. Across their differences, the films share a forward-looking belief: that reconnecting with the past opens pathways ahead. In many ways, it is a return to the future.
